Creative things light my brain right up! I think for the most part, I just appreciate people and the way in which they use their natural talents to express themselves.
Once upon a time, I had a full blown obsession with buying jewelry, stunning pieces that I would purchase and then take home to display, I had tons and only wore the same 3 pieces. I even went as far as going for design classes and can make some pretty good pieces when the mood hits, maybe we’ll explore that someday.
I hardly wear any pieces now, for some reason, halfway through the day I get bothered and take them off or decide to make miniature sculptures with them on my work desk. Interesting fact though, I always look for ways to incorporate accessories whenever I create so the love is still there.
For the first Pieces from Places installment I took a trip on a sunny Saturday afternoon, found some good company and carried a healthy dose of wonder to the Maasai Market. It is basically an open air candy store (is that a thing?) for African themed accessories and a great way to get a glimpse of curios from different artisans. It operates at different places throughout the week which you can easily identify with a quick google search and there are no entry fees.
TIP: Look for unique pieces, bargain, if possible take a friend, explore the market for yourself and take your time (prices may vary since vendors are different and it helps to go through several for the best pieces and offers)
Everything begins with an idea, I wanted to express the magic of being drawn in and engulfed by the market
